Confidentiality

Any information you reveal to me in the course of therapy sessions or phone consultations will not be released to any other person or agency without your written authorization. There are certain situations in which I may/must disclose information without your written authorization or consent. These situations include:

  • If I believe you are likely to do substantial harm to yourself.

  • If you threaten bodily harm to an another person.

  • If you inform me of incidents of the abuse of a child, dependent elder or person with developmental impairments, or the sexual assault or domestic assault of an adult.

  • If you are in treatment by order of the court, or the court subpoenas your records to be used as evidence for any civil or criminal proceedings.

  • If you agree to have your treatment paid fully or in part by an insurance company.

  • If you, or your representative, file a complaint or lawsuit naming me as a plaintiff.

  • If you are in couples’ therapy, the other member of the couple has access to the records.
